Introduction

Drifters is a distinctive hostel that offers an elevated communal experience, far surpassing the traditional hostel setup. With its premium facilities, Drifters includes a cinema room, boardrooms, yoga studios, and even a cocktail bar—creating a unique, stylish environment for guests.

NZAV took the lead on developing a seamless, easy-to-use system for digital signage, background audio, cinema room functionality, and an IPTV system that distributes TV signals across the building via IP. The goal was to ensure smooth control over these diverse systems, providing Drifters staff with intuitive control interfaces to manage the various areas effortlessly.

For the IPTV system, we selected Philips Commercial TVs and integrated the IPTV service with the hostel's Property Management System (PMS). This integration enabled a seamless digital concierge experience, tailored to each guest’s stay. NZAV worked closely with the client to design and implement this feature. One key benefit of linking the IPTV system to the PMS is the ability to provide guests access to streaming services like Netflix, while also complying with Netflix’s security requirements. When a guest checks out, the system automatically logs them out of their Netflix account on the room’s TV, ensuring account security.

To enhance the guest experience further, we implemented a robust Digital Signage system using BrightSign players connected to the BSN cloud. This integration allows Drifters’ marketing team in Australia to remotely manage and schedule content displayed throughout the hostel. Whether informing guests about daily activities or showcasing marketing materials, this dynamic signage keeps visitors engaged.

NZAV also custom-designed a comprehensive control system tailored to Drifters’ specific needs. The system empowers staff to easily manage content across speakers, adjust audio levels, fine-tune settings, and route Dante Audio signals. We incorporated push-button control panels at key locations, opting for manual controls in some areas to simplify usage and reduce costs—while also recognizing that in certain environments, physical buttons may offer more user-friendly, straightforward operation than touchscreens.

For the video distribution throughout the hostel, we selected AV Pro Edge's MXNET AVoIP technology. This innovative solution allows us to transmit video signals reliably over the IP network, ensuring that the cinema room and other video sources are delivered seamlessly throughout the premises.

Overall, this bespoke integration creates a highly functional, efficient, and guest-friendly environment, allowing Drifters to offer a next-level experience while keeping operations smooth and manageable for staff.
