IAC 101

Overview

The International Antarctic Centre is a world-renowned visitor attraction, offering an immersive and educational experience that brings Antarctica to life. To further enhance visitor engagement, the Centre required a modernised visual solution capable of delivering fully immersive projection experiences through edge blending and projection mapping.

NZAV was engaged to design and implement a high-performance projection and control system that would transform an existing space into a seamless, immersive environment—while maintaining reliability and ease of operation in a high-visitor, public setting.

The Challenge

The project objectives included:

  • Creating a seamless, immersive room using edge-blended projection

  • Supporting projection mapping across multiple surfaces

  • Delivering consistent image quality and colour accuracy

  • Ensuring synchronised playback across all visuals

  • Providing a simple and reliable control solution for daily operation

  • Allowing automation and triggering of content without manual intervention

The system needed to operate flawlessly throughout the day, supporting continuous visitor flow while remaining easy for staff to manage.

The NZAV Solution

NZAV designed and installed a multi-projector system utilising new, high-performance projectors configured for edge blending and projection mapping. This approach allowed multiple images to merge seamlessly into a single, continuous visual canvas, creating a truly immersive environment.

To manage content playback and synchronisation, BrightSign media players were deployed, ensuring reliable, high-quality playback across all projection surfaces. These players were integrated with a custom control system developed by NZAV, using Kramer Brainware as the central control platform.

Through the use of UDP triggers, the system enables automated content cues and precise timing between visuals and control events—delivering a smooth and consistent immersive experience.
